Happy Mid-Autumn Festival

A very long time ago there were 10 suns in the sky and they all came together and started to burn everything down. One day a hero named Hou Yi used his bow and arrows to shoot down 9 of the suns and saved everyone on Earth. The queen of heaven rewarded Hou Yi with an elixir of immortality, but one day a thief tried to steal it from his home when he wasn’t there so Hou Yi’s beautiful wife Chang’e drank the elixir so the thief couldn’t get to it. The elixir made her immortal and flew her to the moon. Ever since then Chinese people would commemorate Chang’e and Hou Yi’s lost love by eating mooncakes under the moon on Mid-Autumn Festival.

We didn’t really eat mooncakes under the moon tonight. Even better we got a bunch of our classmates together to make dumplings and also eat mooncakes. It was a lot of fun and reminded me of all the dumpling workshops we used to put on in TCS (Taiwanese Cultural Society). Thanks to everyone who helped organize the event and hope that everyone had a good time. Check out some of the action shots below.

I remember this time last year I was in Taiwan celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival with a bunch of my friends by having a big BBQ, which is the tradition in Taiwan. One of my friends from Taiwan wrote me a nice little note today commemorating this day:

希望我們都能夠健健康康、活得長久,雖然隔得很遠,卻能夠共賞天上的明月,那也就沒有什麼遺憾了。(May we all be blessed with good health and longevity. Though far apart, we are still able to share the beauty of the moon together.)

中秋節快樂! (zhong qiu jie kuai le = happy mid-autumn festival)
